Road Trip 2012, Day 13: Cape Flattery

Gary works from home and has a pretty typical schedule so he set up in his office; Becky and Kate headed to Sequim (pronounced skwim, just so you know). Kate is a tennis superstar and is taking lessons in Sequim as well as taking a cool knitting class where she started a sock! At any rate, they were all busy for the day so our little Rush family did some stuff on our own. Laundry. Yes, we did laundry for a couple hours. Whew, it was great to get it done, though.

After that we headed west to Cape Flattery, which is the most northwesternmost (red squiggle. Hmm, not a word?) point in the contiguous US.

Being the awful mother that I am I had the girls walk down (off the path) to the very end of the world so I could take their pictures. Brad wasn’t happy with me, but whatever. I did tell them to be careful.

The area is really pretty out there (the drive is long, though, so be prepared). It’s a great place for bird watchers and apparently there are often seals playing around. I haven’t seen them either time that I’ve been, but that’s my kind of luck.

On the way back we stopped for a photo of all the boats somewhere near Clallam Bay.

And we did a little beach combing. Caroline found another bull kelp and named this one Sally.

We ate dinner at Gordy’s restaurant in Port Angeles. It was pretty yummy and the guy up front (you order up there) was super friendly which kind of made you happy even if you weren’t (we were happy, but you know what I mean).

Port Angeles seemed like a totally different town than it was when I visited in 2007. It had a lot of really cute stores and even had a natural food grocery store. It wouldn’t be a bad home base for a couple of days if you’re traveling the OP.
